Is it considered a sin to obey my employer in lying to customers for fear of losing my job?

It is not permissible to lie to customers to please the employer, because habitually lying is one of the major sins that lead to Hellfire. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned against it in many hadiths. Lying in buying and selling carries a severe warning. Therefore, a Muslim should be characterized by truthfulness and rely on Allah for sustenance.
