Is it permissible for a deliberate killer to lead the prayer?

The intentional killer is a grave transgressor unless he repents sincerely. Some of the early Muslims disliked praying behind such a person, and he ought not to be appointed as an imam for Muslims, because some scholars stipulate that the regular imam must not be a transgressor.
