Is money earned from providing services that include songs, movies, and comedy considered mixed with the forbidden (haram), and is this work in itself forbidden (haram) or permissible (halal)? And what is its expiation if it is forbidden?

It is not permissible to work in selling songs and prohibited films, based on the Almighty's saying: "And do not cooperate in sin and aggression." The money earned from this is unlawful, and the expiation for this act is sincere repentance. Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on money earned from such work. The majority of scholars hold that it is obligatory to dispose of it by giving it as charity to the poor or spending it on Muslim welfare. However, Imam Ibn Taymiyyah was of the view that if someone earned unlawful money with the payer's consent, and then repented, then what has passed is his, based on the Almighty's saying: "So whoever receives an admonition from his Lord and desists, he may have what has passed, and his affair is up to Allah."
