What is the ruling on money earned from the profession of judging in light of not ruling by what Allah has revealed?

It is not permissible to receive a salary for judging by other than what Allah Almighty has revealed, and whatever is taken in exchange for that is unlawful wealth. And whoever assumes the judiciary and judges by other than what Allah has revealed, has four situations:

1. One who judges by man-made laws while deeming it permissible: This person is a disbeliever by the consensus of the scholars, and any wage he takes is unlawful. 2. One who judges by other than what Allah has revealed, knowing it but not deeming it permissible: This person is a sinner who has committed a grave sin, but he does not exit Islam. 3. One who judges by other than what Allah has revealed due to ignorance: This person is a sinner and must resign from the judiciary and repent, and it is not lawful for him to take a wage. 4. One who judges incorrectly after diligent effort and striving, and is among the people of knowledge: This person is not sinful and will be rewarded for his diligence and excused for his error, and it is permissible for him to take a wage.
