What is incumbent upon one who was given something from theft and did not know until after he had consumed what he was given?

Whoever consumes stolen money without knowing it incurs no sin, for Allah Almighty says: "And We would not punish until We had sent a messenger," and for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: "Indeed, Allah has overlooked for my Ummah their mistakes, their forgetfulness, and what they are coerced into." As for restitution, the owner can demand restitution from him for what he consumed of his money if the thief is insolvent or cannot be found.
