Is it necessary to bring the same type of tree that was stolen, and is it obligatory to inquire about it in distant shops if it is not found in nearby shops?

It is permissible for someone who stole a tree to pay its value to those in charge of the garden if he believes they will use it for the garden's benefit. Otherwise, he must plant another tree that is equal to or superior in benefit to the stolen tree. It is advisable to perform many good deeds, as Allah the Almighty says: "Indeed, good deeds do away with evil deeds" (Quran 11:114), and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Follow up a bad deed with a good deed that will wipe it out."
