The noble verse: "The Prophet is more worthy of the believers than themselves, and his wives are their mothers" [Al-Ahzab: 6]. This verse abolished rulings that were in the early days of Islam, among them that he (peace be upon him) would not pray over a deceased person who owed a debt. Then he said: "I am more worthy of the believers than themselves, so whoever dies owing a debt, its repayment is my responsibility, and whoever leaves behind wealth, it is for his heirs."
