What is the ruling on one who sometimes prays and sometimes discontinues prayer due to drinking alcohol, then repents and returns to the sin, and is it permissible for him to glorify God (tasbih) and pray upon waking from sleep after this sin?

Abandoning prayer and drinking alcohol are major sins. Therefore, whoever commits these acts must hasten to sincere repentance by immediately ceasing the sin, regretting what has passed, and resolving not to return to it. Repentance erases what came before it, and the repentance of a young person is more beloved to Allah. Allah accepts repentance and pardons evil deeds.
