The answer

Pine tar is the extract of pine, cedar, and juniper berries. There is no religious impediment to using it for treatment or incense, especially if it is prescribed by a trustworthy person who is knowledgeable in Islamic ruqyah (exorcism) and the properties of medicines. The basic principle is that it is permissible to use plants and their derivatives unless there is a prohibition. Some scholars disliked the use of incense employed by sorcerers as a precautionary measure (sadd al-dhari'ah). If the ruqyah does not contradict Islamic creed, then there is no harm in it, based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: "There is no harm in ruqyah as long as it does not involve polytheism." If the problem is psychological, it is recommended to consult psychiatrists, while persistently engaging in the remembrance of Allah and the prescribed invocations.
