What is the ruling on a woman exposing some parts of her body in front of other women – such as the full forearm, the upper chest, and the back – and what is the most preponderant opinion regarding this?

The madhhab (view) of the majority of scholars is that the the 'awrah (intimate parts) of a Muslim woman in front of another Muslim woman is what is between the navel and the knee. It is permissible for her to uncover anything other than that, even if there is no necessity. However, with the corruption of time, some scholars have stipulated that this should not be in the presence of wicked women who might describe her to men or look at her with lust.

The Permanent Committee for Ifta' (Fatwa) has adopted the view that a woman's 'awrah in front of her Muslim sister is what is commonly apparent, which is what is customarily uncovered in the home, such as the hair, hands, neck, and feet.
