How should I dispose of money that I found, and after I announced it, no one inquired about it for a month? Should I put all of it in the mosque, or do I have a right to a portion of it, and what is my share in this money if I have a right to it?

The found item (Luqatah) must be announced for a year in the mosque, neighborhood, and marketplace. It is not permissible to dispose of it before this year has passed. If its owner comes after the year, it must be returned to him. Otherwise, the finder is permitted to take possession of it and dispose of it, while still guaranteeing it to its owner should he appear. It is preferable to give it as charity on behalf of its owner. If the owner then comes and approves of the action, he will receive the reward. Otherwise, the finder must guarantee it to him. The found item must be kept safe and not placed in a location where there is a fear of it being lost.
