Has it been reported in the Prophetic Sunnah that a man should shake hands with his wife upon entering their home? And is the Hadith authentic: "Any man who enters his home and greets his family with salām, and shakes hands with his wife, and gently pats her hand, but that their sins fall away or are shed, just as the leaves of a tree fall away on a wintry day"?

The mentioned Hadith, "Shake hands with your wife when you enter your home; poverty will depart from your household," has no basis from the Prophet (peace be upon him).

However, greeting one's wife with salām upon entering the home is a Sunnah, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "There are three, all of whom are guaranteed by Allah Almighty: ... and a man who enters his home with salām, he is guaranteed by Allah Almighty," and his saying: "When a man enters his home, let him say: 'O Allah, I ask You for the best entrance and the best exit. In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we exit, and upon Allah, our Lord, we rely,' then let him greet his family with salām."

And shaking hands is a Sunnah upon meeting, as the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "There are no two Muslims who meet and shake hands but they are forgiven before they separate," and his saying: "Indeed, when a believer meets a believer, greets him with salām, takes his hand, and shakes it, their sins fall away just as the leaves of a tree fall." So, a man shaking hands with his wife upon entering the home is a good deed.

It is obligatory to be careful when attributing Hadiths to the Prophet (peace be upon him), due to his saying: "Whoever says about me what I have not said, let him take his seat in the Fire."
