Is it permissible to seek blessings from graves?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Seeking blessings (tabarruk) is an act of worship based on divine command (tawqif). Seeking blessings from graves by circumambulating them or by rubbing oneself against their soil or walls is not legislated. Rather, there are proofs that prohibit such actions. For this reason, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade taking his grave as a place of celebration ('id). The intent is that houses should not be neglected from prayer and supplication, thereby becoming like graves. The polytheists, however, do the opposite, seeking out worship at graves.
