The default for supplications (Du'a) and remembrances () is to recite them silently, based on the Almighty's saying: "Call upon your Lord humbly and privately; indeed, He does not like transgressors" (Quran 7:55), and His (peace be upon him) saying: "O people, be easy on yourselves, for you are not calling upon one who is deaf or absent, but rather upon one who is All-Hearing, All-Seeing." Many scholars have stipulated the desirability of reciting supplications and remembrances silently, unless there is a need for teaching or a textual evidence for reciting them aloud.
