Is it permissible for a merchant to earn more than 10% profit on goods?

The profit earned by a merchant is not limited by a specific percentage according to Islamic law. However, it is not permissible for him to deceive the buyer by selling an item at a price unknown in the market. It is also prescribed for him not to be excessive in his profit, but rather to be lenient in his dealings.
