Is it permissible to say "La ilaha illa Allah" (There is no god but Allah) and "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the Greatest) after Surat Ad-Duha until Surat An-Nas, and is this authentically reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), or from the Companions, or the Tabi'in?

Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on making takbir (saying "Allahu Akbar") after each Surah from Ad-Duha to An-Nas. The correct view is that it is not prescribed. The takbir after Surah Ad-Duha has not been authentically reported in a marfu' Hadith from the Prophet (peace be upon him), nor from any of his Companions. Rather, it has only been reported from some of the reciters in Mecca. The Hadith mentioned in this regard is weak, as the imams of Hadith have unanimously agreed on the weakness of its narrator. Furthermore, Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah holds that abandoning the takbir is the prescribed and sunnah practice. He goes on to say that whoever claims it is part of the Qur'an is misguided and should be asked to repent or be executed. As for the saying that the Prophet (peace be upon him) made takbir out of joy for the resumption of revelation after its interruption, there is no sound basis for it. Even if it were authentic, it would not indicate the desirability of takbir after every Surah.
