What is the appropriate dowry, and how is a lawful wedding ceremony, free from extravagance and ostentation, to be held? And is the celebration for men, for women, or for everyone?

The Sharia has encouraged making the mahr (bridal-money) easy, but it has not specified an upper or lower limit for it. Thus, anything that is considered property may be given as a mahr. It is recommended to publicize and announce the marriage with the daff (tambourine), voices, and permissible singing, to distinguish it from fornication. It is also recommended to hold a wedding feast, even if it is not obligatory, while ensuring that it is free from Sharia prohibitions such as forbidden musical instruments and mixing of sexes.
