Is it permissible to marry a young man who is not Muslim, but has agreed to embrace Islam solely for the purpose of marriage, knowing that he has performed ghusl and wudu with the intention of converting to Islam?

Embracing Islam is accomplished by uttering the two testimonies of faith (Shahadatain) and acting upon their implications, adhering to the pillars and teachings of Islam, and abandoning matters of disbelief. It is not achieved merely by performing ghusl (ritual bath) or wudu (ablution) with the intention of embracing Islam, as ghusl is not a condition for the validity of Islam.

Therefore, if the young man pronounced the two testimonies of faith and adhered to the pillars of Islam, and did not commit anything that contradicts his Islam, then his marriage is valid. However, if he did not adhere to the teachings of Islam and merely feigned Islam to marry a Muslim woman, then his marriage is void and must be annulled immediately. It is obligatory to distance oneself from him because he is a non-mahram, and seclusion with him or touching him is forbidden. In this case, the children are attributed to him.
