Obeying parents is obligatory in matters that benefit them and do not harm the child. If the parents' displeasure regarding the purchase of a car for the wife is unfounded, then their obedience is not obligatory, and it is permissible to buy the car. If it is possible to avert their displeasure through a stratagem, such as giving the wife the money to buy the car herself, then this is permissible.
