No matter how harsh and abusive a father may be, this does not diminish his right to dutifulness, connection, veneration, and honor. Therefore, one must maintain ties with him, treat him kindly, and be patient with his harshness. However, he should not be obeyed if he asks to sever ties with the mother; rather, both of them must be treated dutifully. It is also proper to give him money if he wishes, even if he is not in need. If he is poor, then providing for him becomes obligatory.
