What is the ruling on the menstrual period coming after 17 days with light bleeding for 7 days, then it coming again after 10 days with menstrual symptoms and pains?

The minimum duration of purity between two menstrual periods is thirteen days. So, if a woman sees blood only ten days after its cessation, it is not considered a new menstruation nor a continuation of the previous one. This is because the total of the two blood flows and the period between them exceeds fifteen days, which is the maximum duration of menstruation. Consequently, this blood is considered istihada (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding), and the woman must do what a woman experiencing istihada does by referring to her previous habit if she knows it. Otherwise, she should rely on discernible characteristics (of the blood), or observe six or seven days of the month as is common for women's menstruation.
