Is Imam Al-Shafi'i of Persian origin and not from Quraish, and did Al-Shafi'i ask Omar and Othman to make him among the freedmen (mawali) of Quraish?

Imam Al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) was of Qurayshi lineage, from the tribe of Banu Al-Muttalib ibn Abd Manaf. This is well-known and famous among genealogists. Al-Baladhuri and others have explicitly stated this, and Al-Bayhaqi mentioned that Al-Shafi'i's lineage within Quraysh and his fame as Al-Muttalibi are "more apparent than the light of day." The claim made by some innovators that Al-Shafi'i was not Arab but rather one of their freed slaves is a false and baseless assertion. Al-Fakhr Al-Razi and Abu Zahra have refuted this claim, emphasizing that Al-Shafi'i was of Qurayshi lineage and never claimed to be a freed slave himself.
