Is one who is wrongfully killed without sin considered a martyr?

One who is wrongfully killed is a martyr. This is stated in Mawahib al-Jalil. However, according to the majority of scholars, the rulings pertaining to a battlefield martyr do not apply to him in this world; thus, he is washed and prayed over. Some scholars were of the opinion that his ruling is that of a martyr absolutely.
