Which verse and surah indicate the merit of the Companions and their varying degrees in rank and reward?

The verse shows the virtue of the Companions who spent and fought before the Conquest of Mecca, and that they are of a greater rank than those who spent and fought after it. Nevertheless, Allah has promised all of them the best.
