What is the ruling on wearing shorts at home, and is it true that angels are shy of naked women and therefore do not enter the house?

The two hadiths: "Guard your 'awrah (private parts) except from your wife or from whom your right hand possesses" and "A man should not look at the 'awrah of another man, nor should a woman look at the 'awrah of another woman," indicate the requirement to cover the 'awrah at all times, except when relieving oneself and when a man engages in intimacy with his wife. It is obligatory to cover the 'awrah from all people except for one's spouse, and in cases of necessity, such as with a doctor.

For a Muslim woman, her 'awrah in front of her mahrams (unmarriageable kin) includes everything except the face and extremities such as the head, neck, and lower leg. As for what is usually covered, like the chest, back, and thigh, she is not permitted to expose them to them, nor are they permitted to look at them.

Muslim homes must be built upon concealment, modesty, and decorum.

The purified angels (other than the guardian angels) do not attend except in pure places and are only with the believing, pious individuals. Angels, both guardian and otherwise, are honored servants, and a Muslim must honor them and be modest before them, so as not to undress in front of them. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Beware of nudity! For with you are those who never leave you, except when you relieve yourselves and when a man is intimate with his wife. So be modest before them and honor them."
