Does divorce take effect and is expiation required for one who swore by triple divorce to quit smoking and snuff, and covenanted with Allah upon the Qur’an, then returned to them?

If you do what you swore to abandon, you are bound by the expiations for the oaths you took. If you break an oath sworn by triple divorce, your divorce takes effect as three, and your wife becomes irrevocably separated from you with a major separation. This is the view of most scholars, while others believe that one who swears by divorce with the intention of threat or prevention is bound by an expiation for an oath if he breaks it, and that divorce pronounced as three counts as one. Smoking is forbidden. The legitimate oath is by Allah Almighty, and swearing by divorce is an oath of the wicked, and grave consequences may result from it.
