What is the ruling on reciting the Qur'an for people for a wage?

There is no objection to taking a wage for teaching and memorizing the Qur’an, based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: “Indeed, the most deserving thing for which you take a wage is the Book of Allah.” However, taking a wage merely for reciting the Qur’an is not permissible, and there is no known dispute among scholars regarding its prohibition.
