What is the ruling on the imamate of one whose garment is trailing (below the ankles but not touching the ground)? And is his prayer and the prayer of those behind him invalidated?

The prayer of one who lets his garment drag is valid and sufficient, whether he is an imam, a congregant, or praying alone. The hadith reported regarding the invalidity of his prayer is not authentic. Letting one's garment drag is forbidden if done out of arrogance. If it is free from arrogance, there is a difference of opinion among scholars, but the fatwa adopted by us is that it is forbidden.
