Are the names "Al-Wali" and "Mawlana" among the Most Beautiful Names of Allah, and is it permissible to name people with them?

"Al-Wali" and "Al-Mawla" are two of the Beautiful Names of Allah, as mentioned in the Quranic verses and noble Prophetic traditions. It is permissible to use "Mawlana" (our master/patron) for a Muslim, but it is not permissible to use it for a disbeliever. The term "Al-Mawla" has been used for someone excelling in knowledge or righteousness, and from this is the Prophet's saying to Zayd ibn Harithah: "You are our brother and our mawla." The meanings of "Al-Mawla" are numerous; it can refer to the owner, the master, the benefactor, the emancipator, the helper, and others. Therefore, there is no harm in using it for a Muslim creature. However, it is forbidden to address a dhimmi (non-Muslim living under Islamic rule) with "Sayyiduna" (our master) or "Mawlana." Some scholars have permitted the use of "Al-Mawla" and "Al-Sayyid" (both with the definite article 'Al-') if the person being addressed as master is virtuous and righteous.
