Is one who committed a forbidden act, such as fornication or drinking alcohol, while young and unaware of Islam's ruling concerning it, but only knew it was shameful, held accountable?
If a person commits fornication or drinks alcohol while young and not yet an adult, they will not be held accountable by Allah, due to the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "The pen has been lifted from three: from the sleeper until he awakens, from the child until he reaches puberty, and from the insane until he regains his sanity."
A child reaches puberty by one of three signs: 1. Wet dream: the emission of semen while awake or asleep after completing nine years of age. 2. The growth of coarse hair around the pubic area. 3. Reaching the age of fifteen.
Females have two additional signs for puberty: 1. Menstruation. 2. Pregnancy.
