Moving the tongue with the aforementioned recitation—if it is not merely a recitation by heart—invalidates the prayer. This action is considered akin to speech, which invalidates prayer through the movement of the tongue. Ibn Uthaymeen clarified that speaking with the tongue invalidates prayer, whereas inner speech (hadith al-nafs) does not invalidate it, though it diminishes it. Whether the recitation is silent or audible, it invalidates the prayer if the tongue is moved with it, because that which invalidates prayer when expressed openly also invalidates it when concealed.
