I have heard of the existence of verses called the "Satanic Verses"; do they truly exist?

"The Satanic Verses" is a book by Salman Rushdie that mocks the Mothers of the Believers, ridicules the religion, and disparages the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him. Scholars have issued a fatwa declaring him an apostate, and a Muslim should not occupy himself with such books that aim to sow doubt in the beliefs of Muslims.
