Is seeking forgiveness seventy times (Istighfar) to be done at each sitting or only once a day?

A Muslim should frequently seek Allah's forgiveness (Istighfar) at all times and in all circumstances. There is no specific number for seeking forgiveness in a day or a single gathering, as the narrations do not specify this, but rather emphasize the general command to do so frequently. Allah the Almighty says: "And [commanding you], 'Seek forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him.'" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would seek forgiveness a hundred times in a single gathering, saying: "My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance, for indeed You are the Acceptor of Repentance, the Most Merciful," and he would say: "I seek forgiveness from Allah, other than Whom there is no god, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him." It is stated in the Hadith: "Whoever adheres to seeking forgiveness, Allah will make for him a way out of every worry, a relief from every difficulty, and provide for him from where he does not expect." Al-Hasan al-Basri said: "Increase your seeking of forgiveness in your homes, at your dining tables, in your streets, in your markets, and in your gatherings, and wherever you are, for you do not know at what moment blessings will descend."
