How sound is the statement that the Prophet’s — may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him — helping his wives with household chores such as sweeping and kneading is false, and that he only performed masculine tasks, citing Aisha’s narration: “And he would do what men do in their homes”?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to serve himself in his home. He would do what men typically do in their homes, such as mending clothes, repairing sandals, delousing garments, and milking sheep. It has not been authentically reported that he, peace and and blessings be upon him, engaged in tasks typically done by women, like cooking or kneading dough. Nor has it been reported that he assisted his wives in matters exclusive to them. Scholars hold that a man serving his family is a sign of humility and good companionship, but it should not compromise his role as a maintainer, such that he exclusively handles household chores while his wife works outside the home.
