Is a wife obligated to host her husband's mother in her home and serve her despite being harmed by her?
The wife is not obliged to live with her husband's family, nor is she obliged to serve her mother-in-law or anyone else. However, if she volunteers to do so, it is considered an act of kindness. It is advisable to be patient with the mother-in-law and keep her in the house seeking Allah's pleasure, as this is an act of kindness to the husband, helps him in his dutifulness to his mother, and is an act of kindness to his sick mother. This is among the best acts of righteousness for which Allah grants immense reward.
