Is seeking knowledge an individual obligation for every Muslim man and woman?

"Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim." This is an individual obligation (fard ayn) concerning matters of creed (aqidah) and worship (ibadah), and it can be learned through asking, listening, or studying. As for reading cultural, political, intellectual, sociological, psychological, and linguistic books, it does not reach the level of an individual obligation; at most, it might be a communal obligation (fard kifayah).
