What is the ruling concerning those who were guided by a religious scholar who enjoins good but does not practice it, knowing his true nature, and what is the ruling concerning his many good deeds that he reaped from people's obedience and their return to Allah?

Severe warnings have been issued against those who enjoin good but do not practice it, and forbid evil but commit it, as stated in the Hadith of Usama ibn Zayd in the Sahihayn. This warning applies to those who do not repent before their death and whose evil deeds outweigh their good deeds. A person must enjoin good and forbid evil, even if they do not adhere to them themselves, because enjoining good is an obligation, and abandoning one does not negate the other. Whoever guides to a good path will have a reward similar to the rewards of those who follow him. Allah Almighty judges people by scales: whoever's good deeds are heavy will succeed, and whoever's good deeds are light will lose.
