Is it permissible to repeat the Isha prayer in its entirety if the Imam prayed 3 rak'ahs instead of 4, then gave the salām forgetfully? And what is obligatory in this case?
It is obligatory to say "Subhan Allah" (glory be to God) to the Imam to alert him if he forgets a rak'ah (unit of prayer). If he does not stand up, the followers complete their prayer individually. If they realize after the Salam (final salutation), they should remind him to perform the rak'ah and perform the prostrations of forgetfulness ( as-Sahw), and they should follow him. Otherwise, the follower performs the rak'ah alone and performs the prostrations of forgetfulness. Whoever does not perform it until a long period has passed, his prayer is invalidated and it is obligatory to repeat it, and your repeating the prayer absolves you of liability.
