What is the financial penalty in Islamic Sharia?
Financial penalties are fixed legal punishments related to money, decreed by the ruler to ward off a general corruption. There are many proofs for their permissibility, including: taking half the wealth of one who withholds zakat, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, throwing a gold ring from a man's hand, and the action of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, in destroying adulterated milk. Ibn al-Qayyim clarified that the claim of abrogating financial penalties is incorrect because it contradicts the doctrines of the Imams and the actions of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, and it is not based on any legal evidence.
