Does expiation become obligatory for one who intended to quit smoking for the sake of Allah Almighty, then retracted and returned to it?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The ruling on smoking and its prohibition has been previously clarified, and that it is not permissible to use it, offer it to others, or assist in its use. The questioner must refrain from buying and using tobacco, for whoever abandons something for the sake of Allah, Allah will compensate him with something better. He must seek forgiveness, repent, and stay away from smoking. If he had sworn to abandon it and then returned to it, he must offer expiation for breaking an oath, which is feeding ten poor persons, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. If he cannot find any of these, then fasting for three days.
