What is the ruling on anasheed (Islamic songs) and theater to reduce the spread of lewd songs?

There is no harm for a Muslim in reciting or listening to anashid (religious hymns), especially if they contain wisdom, admonitions, exhortations to do good, and inspire enthusiasm and zeal for the religion while deterring from evil, provided they do not include any musical instruments. It is also stipulated that there should be no extravagance in this, nor should it lead to neglecting an obligation. Purposeful plays that call for good and warn against evil are permissible under the same conditions, with the added stipulations that they do not involve portraying prophets, angels, or companions, and that there is no mixing of men and women, nor imitation of one sex by the other.
