What is the ruling of Sharia on boycotting relatives whose association and continued relations cause problems and discord, who do not harbor affection, who transmit others' words, and who cause pain with their words, especially since keeping away from them brings comfort and tranquility?

It is not permissible to boycott kin due to their ill-treatment or bad manners. Rather, it is obligatory to maintain ties with them, offer them advice, endure their harm patiently, and forgive them. If prolonged sitting causes problems, then maintaining ties can be achieved through greetings, handshakes, short visits, and phone calls. It is advisable to utilize the opportunity of meeting to discuss beneficial matters and kind words that bring benefit in this world and the hereafter, and that cultivate love and affection.
