What is the ruling regarding someone who claims that the Qur’an is created, and how is he to be refuted? Are the Mu'tazilah and those who supported them in this view considered disbelievers?

The statement that the Qur'an is created is disbelief (kufr), and the Salaf declared anyone who said it a disbeliever. The Mu'tazilah affirm the creation of the'an and deny the vision of Allah in the Hereafter. There is a distinction between a general ruling and declaring a specific person a disbeliever. The Salaf declared the Jahmiyyah, who asserted the creation of the Qur'an and denied the vision of Allah in the Hereafter, disbelievers. However, Imam Ahmad did not declare specific individuals among them disbelievers; rather, he invoked mercy and sought forgiveness for them, knowing that it had not become clear to them that they were contradicting the Messenger.
