Does the noble verse (To Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful) mean that punishment is imposed upon man and he has no choice, and that man is compelled? And can a person be punished despite fulfilling all the pillars of Islam?

Allah’s saying: "He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills" indicates that Allah is the Sovereign, the Disposer of affairs concerning His servants. He forgives the sins of the people of faith by His grace, and punishes whom He wills of His creation for their sins. Allah is All-Wise, All-Just; He does not punish anyone except for their sins and after the proof has been established against them. He has given the servant intellect and will to distinguish between good and evil. So, whoever Allah guides to His obedience, their destiny is Paradise, as in His saying: "As for him who gives [in charity] and is righteous, and believes in the best [reward], We will ease him toward ease." And a righteous ending is the inheritance of righteous precedents. Therefore, a Muslim must remain steadfast upon Allah’s commands until he meets Him.
