Is there a contradiction between His saying, "Your companion has not erred, nor has he gone astray," and His saying, "And He found you astray and guided you?"

Muslims have unanimously agreed that prophets are infallible from error in what they convey from God. The verse in Surah An-Najm (The Star) negates misguidance from the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. As for the verse in Surah Ad-Duha (The Morning Hours), "And He found you astray and guided you," it means his lack of knowledge regarding the path of guidance and divine laws before revelation, or his perplexity in the Cave of Hira, or his unawareness of what he would learn through revelation, and not the blameworthy misguidance which is the opposite of guidance and faith. This is supported by the Almighty's saying: "You did not know what the Scripture was or [what] faith [was]."
