First, whoever buys shares with the intention of trading them must pay Zakat on them as trade goods at the end of the year, by appraising them at market value and giving one-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%). As for whoever buys shares for the purpose of holding them and benefiting from their profits, they must pay Zakat on the profit and the equivalent of the share in cash within the company's assets.

Second, if a year passes and you still owe installments, you are obligated to pay Zakat on the shares without considering those installments; because debt does not affect Zakat, according to the soundest opinion of the scholars.
