Shares are subject to zakat on their value plus their profit, or on their profit only. The profit is subject to zakat along with the principal of the shares if their value is subject to zakat. If their value is not subject to zakat, then the profit alone is subject to zakat if a year has passed over it and it reaches the nisab by itself or by adding other money to it.

Debt does not prevent zakat if there are funds exceeding one's needs that can be used to pay off the debt. If not, then the amount of the debt is deducted, and the remainder is subject to zakat. It is more cautious to pay zakat on all the money.
