Is it permissible to recite a surah from the Qur'an before the Fatiha in prayer?

It is not permissible to recite a surah before Al-Fatiha in prayer. Instead, the opening supplication (Istiftah), seeking refuge (Ta'awwudh), and بسم الله (Basmalah) are recited before it. Violating this prophetic guidance contradicts the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Pray as you have seen me praying." The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to recite the opening supplication instead of a surah before Al-Fatiha.
