However, if your profit from it reaches the (minimum threshold) on its own, or when combined with other wealth, and a hawl (full lunar year) passes over it, then Zakat is due on it. You must pay it for every year in which a hawl passed over your wealth while you possessed the nisab. Your ignorance of the ruling does not exempt you from it.
