Is the intention to dedicate the reward of good deeds once sufficient, or must it be renewed for each deed, and does the mentioned reward reach those to whom it is dedicated?

The scholarly consensus is that the reward of charity and supplication reaches the deceased, but they differed on what is beyond that. Many have favored that the living benefit from the action whose reward is dedicated to them.

A prior intention to dedicate the reward of a good deed is not beneficial, because dedicating reward is a form of gifting, and it is not permissible to gift what one does not own. Therefore, the intention to dedicate the reward must be renewed with or after each act of worship, or one should say: "O Allah, if You have rewarded me for this, I have made its reward for so-and-so."
